Up Yours: How to Bring Your Best Game to Life!
Bob Martel

I love saying ‘up yours’ to people, and I mean it in the most respectful and courteous way, so I hope you take it as such. In fact, I offer it as a challenge to clients and friends, as now to you as well. Up Yours, I say! I also challenge you to embrace the truth that success is a habit, and you may be due for a habit exam. A mindful review of our habits always leads to improvements when pursuit of happiness is forefront, and small (or massive) action steps follow.

This article may prompt you to start making even better decisions each day, which will lead to better outcomes in business and in life. If you are, indeed, driven in the least to bring your best game to life each day, or that of your team, all that is needed is an open mind, a sense of worthiness, and a commitment to honestly examine your current habits, your past habits that may have brought better results that you now enjoy (or are in the way of that pleasure), and to adopt new habits that may be appropriate for you now or in the near future.

Hopefully, you have already said ‘up yours’ to your 2022 new year’s resolutions and you can now say ‘up yours’ as a global intention that drives your focused efforts. How do you ratchet up your game in this distracted, high anxiety world in which we now live? Well, you start by being true to yourself, knowing yourself, what you want and why, and developing the confidence and courage to make forward progress despite fears and inner obstacles that may be holding you back.

I wonder if you can tap into your powerful mind right now and image yourself just a mere ten percent more successful, or ten percent happier. I wonder if you can visualize yourself calmer, more relaxed and in more control of your emotions, and with greater clarity of mind. Connecting with what you want in this regard makes it so easy to take back control and make some positive changes. I call them tiny habitual success patterns. If you are, indeed, driven in the least to bring a better game to life each day all that is needed is an open mind and a commitment to honestly examine your current habits, past habits that may have brought better results that you now enjoy, and new habits that may be appropriate for you now or in the near future.
There are a few key questions to consider. What do you want, really? Are you willing to raise the bar and hold yourself accountable for even the tiniest of changes? Are you afraid of changing? What are you willing to change, even slightly? Whether you sense a complete overhaul or simply need some fine tuning, adopt these strategies for bringing your best game to life:

Learn to live in the present with an eye on your intentions already being realized. This mindful focus and attention, mixed with visualization and mental rehearsal of the outcome you desire will move your mind, body, and spirit to make daily progress. Commit to the habit change that will bring the results that you say you want for yourself and take the requisite action.

Striving to up our game is the goal here. We cannot bring our ‘A-game’ every day but as our head hits the pillow each night and we reflect on the day just past and the one ahead, we can reflect and use the famous Emile Coué affirmation: Every day and in every way, I am better and better. Try it.

Momentum is key. Start small, enjoy the feeling of true progress, and get what I call “Big Mo” on your side. It will propel you forward. I have prepared a report for readers, including a 19-point self-audit that may help you prioritize your “areas” needing your attention. Reach out if you want a copy.
